When is the best time to visit India? |
The best months are between Oct-Mar. The hill stations in North India can be visited during the rest of the months Apr-Sep. Monsoon season is usually during Jul-Sep which varies by region. |
What vaccines are required for India? |
No compulsory inoculations are required if you are arriving from US, Canada or Europe. If you are entering from Africa or some parts of Latin America, certification of yellow fever inoculation is required. Always consult your GP. |
Do I require a passport and/or visa to enter India? |
Yes all nationalities except Indian and Nepalese require a valid passport for 6 months after return of travel & a valid visa to enter India. |
Can I bring Indian currency with me to India or I have to get them converted only when I land in India? |
Bringing Indian currency by any foreign national is prohibited. Only Indians who travel overseas frequently can bring small amount of Indian Rupees. Please bring your country currency and get it exchanged into Rupees upon arrival at the airport, at hotels and official banks or registered foreign exchange offices. Some travel agents also offer this service. |
How much foreign exchange can I carry to India? |
Any person can bring into India from a place outside India foreign exchange without any limit. However, declaration of foreign exchange/currency is required to be made in the prescribed Currency Declaration Form in the following cases:-
(a) Where the value of foreign currency notes exceeds US$ 5000/- or equivalent
(b) Where the aggregate value of foreign exchange (in the form of currency notes, bank notes, traveller cheques etc.) exceeds US$ 10,000/- or its equivalent

What clothes shall I wear? |
| Dress informally carrying lightweight cotton clothes that can be laundered easily. For evening dinners a suit for men and appropriate evening wear for the ladies. In North India during winter you will need light woollen sweaters and light jacket. Women should avoid mini skirts/dresses particularly in smaller towns to respect the culture and tradition. |
What shall I take on the trip? |
Personal toiletries, prescription medications, flashlight, insect repellent, moist towels, a roll of toilet paper, swimsuit, hat, sunglasses, sunblock, comfortable walking shoes, slipper socks. |
Can I drink tap water? |
Drink only bottled mineral water at all times to avoid dehydration. (Bisleri, Ganga etc are good products). |
Do I need to bargain when shopping? |
Make sure you agree on a price before you purchase anything in India. Bargaining is a must. |
What can I purchase in India? |
| Fabrics like silk, wool & cotton, carpets, clothes, jewellery, handicrafts & leatherwork, spices, toiletries, Indian tea etc.. |
Can I buy alcohol in India? |
There are official liquor shops that sell alcohol. You can also get alcohol in all good restaurants and hotels. |
What shall I do if local people beg for money? |
The best advise is to ignore the person and keep on going or if you wish you can give a tip of 2-10rupees. |
